Fencing is nearly finished at Fenland Dog Park

The final major job of fencing Fenland Dog Park’s 4ac paddock is nearing completion, and once finished, the site will be safe, secure and ready for opening.

Our local fencing man Dan from Arbor Post Ltd, who we have worked with before, arrived on site with his team, with some impressive job specific kit to bang in the wooden posts and erect the fencing at Fenland Dog Park.ย  The perimeter of the Dog Park area is 780m long, nearly two laps of an athletics track, with a few corners and gates in it, so we needed to get the professionals in to make a secure and tidy job.

The main fence wire we are using is called Deer Fence wire, HT13/190/15, meaning High Tensile, 13 horizontal wires, 190cm tall (6โ€™3โ€), and 15cm between the vertical wires.ย  This wire specification gives a rectangular mesh size of 7cm x 15cm nearest the ground (about the size of a standard smart phone), and gradually gets larger mesh size as you go higher up, as shown on the specification sheet.

In order to keep the smallest and keenest dogs safe and secure within Fenland Dog Park, the bottom half of the deer fencing will also have Hexagonal Rabbit Netting, 1050mm x 31mm x 1.2mm, clipped to it for 85cm on the deer fence and 20cm along the ground.ย  This hexagonal wire netting is 3.1cm mesh, smaller than a golf ball, and is supported in strength by the deer fence behind it.

The car park is also fully dog proof and secure, using the same fencing as the boundary fence described above.ย  When you drive up the access road you will open the 3.6m wide vehicle access gate, park your vehicle, and then close the same 3.6m wide vehicle access gate.ย  Once this vehicle access gate has been closed behind you, you can then let you dog/s out of your vehicle, with peace of mind that they are securely enclosed.

From the secure car park area you will then enter Fenland Dog Park through the narrower pedestrian gate, with a sign on it saying Dog Park Entrance.ย  On the gate handle keypad type in your access code, which was provided to you on your booking reminder a few hours before your booked slot.ย  There is another vehicle access gate off the car park into the Dog Park, but as the sign says on this gate, this is for Maintenance Access Only, to allow us in with a tractor to mow the grass and maintain the site.

The final part of fencing and gate work at the site is for the small dog / puppy zone.ย  The small dog / puppy zone is an area about the size of a tennis court, accessed from within the main dog park, and has some smaller dog agility equipment in it and a picnic table.ย  The internal fencing of this is 120cm tall (4โ€™0โ€), and again has the 3.1cm hexagonal wire netting clipped to it.ย  This small dog / puppy zone is to offer a smaller enclosed area, so you can stay closer to your young or small dog while they are off the lead, while they explore and gain confidence.

We thank Dan and his team from Arbor Post Ltd at Wisbech for their smart work, and we look forward to welcoming you and your dogs to Fenland Dog Park very soon, when booking slots go live!
