Road, Car Park and Tunnels at Fenland Dog Park

The contractors and their digger arrived to put in the new access track and car park for Fenland Dog Park at Long Sutton, with the limestone coming from the local quarry near Bourne.

While we continue to have a spell of dry weather, the contractor was given the nod to start the work to put the new access track and car park in at Fenland Dog Park.ย  The JCB excavator got unloaded and Michael the driver started digging out the soil to a depth of 30cm in the marked out agreed area.ย  This topsoil was carted by Henry on a farm tractor and trailer, and was tipped up to level out a part of the field where there was a low area, but also to create some fun mounds with tunnels within the enclosed Dog Park area.ย  We have added three tunnels to the Dog Park, two tunnels in the main area, and one smaller tunnel in the puppy/small dog zone, so your dogs can run through the tunnels or climb over the top of the soil mounds.ย  The soil mounds have been seeded with grass, and we will water the seed in, if we donโ€™t get any imminent rain.

Once the track and car park area had its soil removed, we then laid down some membrane to help prevent weeds growing.ย  On top of the membrane, we then tipped 225mm of 50mm clean limestone which came locally from a quarry near Bourne, which was regularly compacted down by James on the hired JCB roller.ย  The surface was then finished off with 75mm of Type 1 Granite (40mm down), which has also been compacted and rolled down.

The last job to complete for the track is where it joins the Lincolnshire County Council (LCC) road, Monmouth Lane.ย  For this last 2 meters we have to use a LCC approved works contractor, as stipulated in our Planning Consent, and they will complete the Light Duty Domestic Vehicle Access, with its tarmac apron and new dropped kerbs.ย  Our allocated Streetworks Officer will then sign this off.ย  This industry standard track laying procedure will then hopefully provide a good long term sustainable and clean access track for Fenland Dog Park users.

The next main task on the ground for Fenland Dog Park is for the contractor to come and erect the fencing and gates.ย  I will update you on this very soon!
